Check out the highlights video of Demo Day 2023, where students from the Master of Applied Cybernetics program showcased their year-long journey of learning and growth.
During the event, students presented diverse projects, demonstrating their newfound skills and expertise. From developing systems to help farmers track their cattle to designing wearable technology to enhance safety for vulnerable individuals, delving into the intricate relationship between humanity and predictive technologies, and even envisioning pathways to a more sustainable future, the projects were as varied as they were innovative.
The students walked visitors through their processes, which involved everything from initial conceptualization to the design and creation of sophisticated cyber-physical systems. These systems incorporated feedback loops, sensors, and actuators, showcasing their potential to make a real impact on a global scale.
Reflecting on her experience at Demo Day 2023, my guest Yolande Norris, writer and creative producer, remarked, “As I wandered through the exhibits, I couldn’t help but wonder, how can I be a part of this incredible community? How do I join in and contribute to this exciting field?”
What are cybernetics, you ask? For me, it’s the discipline of working pragmatically to design and remake the relationships between humans, technology and ecology. Making, regenerating and tuning complex systems is another way of putting it.
